Ever since I first saw the paintings by Canaletto (real name: Giovanni Antonio Canal), I’ve wanted to visit Venice. Why? Was it the scale of his paintings? Or the colors? Or his depiction of daily life that hooked me? Probably some mixture of all three. I just new that someday I wanted to go to La Serenissima.
In the fall of 2018, I finally got my chance. I signed up for a photography workshop in the city that was scheduled for the fall of 2019. How was I to know that it would coincide with the worst flooding to hit Venice in over 50 years?
